Indigimar's Scariest Mistakes to Make in Digital Marketing

All Hallows’ Eve is creeping up on us, and with it comes all things freakish, ghoulish, and frightening. However, that does not mean your digital marketing has to be the same. If you want to ensure you do not scare your customers off, then don’t make these scary mistakes that will send them running for their lives.

Not Having Defined Goals

When you do not have defined goals for your marketing plan, you wind up walking around like a zombie with no clear destination. You do not want to be stuck every day scrambling for what to post yet again. In order to succeed, you will need a clearly defined goal with a map on how to accomplish the goal.

Misrepresenting Your Brand Online

You would not tell everyone you were having a huge Halloween party when in fact, you had a few strobe lights and bedsheet ghosts would you? Then why would you tell people your brand was something it was not? Misrepresenting your brand is the quickest way to be distrusted across the internet. Word spreads quickly in the web world, and once it gets out you are not whom you say you are, your brand will be no more.

Ignoring Your followers

Turning into a ghost and disappearing into thin air when your followers are trying to interact with you is a good way to have your followers become ghosts as well. Studies have shown that consumers are more likely to remain loyal and buy more products from a company that interacts with them online.

Forgetting to Proofread

If you have spelling and grammar mistakes, you might as well nail the coffin shut on your blog. Nobody wants to read a blog that has tons of misspelled words and bad punctuation.  So before you hit publish, make sure to proofread, proofread, proofread.

Too Much Social Media

We all know there is such a thing as eating too much Halloween candy. Too much of something can be a bad thing, and that goes for spamming your social media followers as well. Nobody wants their newsfeed flooded with nothing but the content of one page. Break your posts up and make them as relevant as possible to the subject, don’t wander off from the theme of your page.

Boring Subject Lines

The last thing you want is subject lines that bore your readers to death. If the subject does not grab the readers interest right off, they likely will not bother to open the e-mail. Do you want to get that amazing content inside your newsletter read? Then you have got to grab them from the beginning and don’t let go. An engaging subject line that asks a question entices the reader to want to know more and keep them coming back.

Not Having Good Content

Not having good content is like not having candy for your trick or treaters. You leave the light on, lure them in, but there’s no candy in the bowl. By not having good content, your readers click on the link only to find a trick instead of a treat. Make sure your content is just as engaging as what you used to get them to look.

Hiding Negative Comments

Hiding negative comments on social media brings scary consequences around every corner. When you remove a comment, and someone happened to have already seen it, you run the risk of people thinking you are trying to hide something once that person asks why you removed it. It is better to face your fear head-on and respond with an apology and possible resolution to the complaint. You want your customers to see that you are listening to the grievances and want to help find a solution.

By making sure to steer clear of all these hair-raising mistakes, you will gain, and keep, more followers and subscribers and your customers will be more likely to follow you like a herd of zombies.
